At the trial of ISIS jailers, Mehdi Nemmouche's lawyer, Francis Vuillemin, attempted to deconstruct the identification of his client by ex-hostages, citing cognitive biases and portraying Nemmouche as a troubled "prisoner" in solitary confinement for eleven years. The lawyer worked to highlight elements of the case that questioned the credibility of the French journalists who identified Nemmouche as a jailer.
